Climate Change Levy (CCL)
Increase from Monday 1st April 2019
From Monday 1st April 2019 there will be a nationwide increase in the Climate Change Levy (CCL) which is applied directly to the majority of business energy bills in the UK.
This affects business users of both electricity and natural gas who use more than 1000kWh per month of electricity and/or more than 150 Therms or 4,397kWh of gas per month.
What is Climate Change Levy (CCL)?
Climate Change Levy (CCL) is a UK government tax imposed on energy supplies (including electricity, gas, and coal). It is part of the government’s energy efficiency programme, designed to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
CCL was implemented on the 1st April 2001 and affects most businesses and public sector bodies that pay VAT at the standard rate on their energy bills.
As of 1st April 2019, the CCL charge rates are increasing; electricity by 45% and gas by 67%.
